Established in 1953 as a centre for advanced study, the Institute of Art History carries out research into history of Czech art and architecture, with regard to the wider Central European context. Among its key projects is the multi-volume History of Czech Visual Arts encyclopaedia, as well as, for example, research into medieval wall painting and illuminated manuscripts. In its research, the Institute puts emphasis on collaboration with other research centres, universities and museums in the region, as well as in the international context. Also, the Institute takes part in several projects on cultural heritage preservation.

Preus museum, formerly “Norsk museum for fotografi – Preus museum” is Norway’s national museum of photography and as such follows the highest standards of collection management, as well as of expertise in the treatment and conservation of photographic materials. The museum approaches photography within the context of contemporary art and a broader visual culture and applies an interdisciplinary perspective to the history of photography. The museum collection covers all aspects of the history of photography, from the earliest technical and scientific experiments to contemporary photographic art.
